Since he came into the limelight, Barry Jhay has steadily worked his way to establish himself as a reliable voice of Afropop, infusing elements from different genres to create a newfangled sound that appeals to a general audience. Now, the son of the late Barrister is set to release his debut project, an EP titled Barry Back. The young songwriter is taking listeners on a trip into the musical realm his father introduced us to.
As part of the new wave of Nigerian acts bringing a change to the Nigerian music industry, Barry Jhay has consistently proven that he’s adept at his craft. From the spiritually-inclined song that ushered him into the arms of mainstream Aiye to the high tempo Mo Le Jo as well as on different features (Jaywon’s Aje remix, Ckay’s Beeni), Barry’s angelic voice has earned him the love and follower-ship of a devoted fan base.
He has since worked with a number of acts including Vstix, Antras, BadboyTimz, and many more. In 2018, he won the Best New Act of the Year at City People Music Awards. Towards the end of 2019, he won the Rookie of The Year Award at The Headies. The talented singer has toured different states in the country and has performed outside the Nigerian borders.
The EP Barry Back is a testament to the fact that Barrister (and his music) continue to live on through his son, Barry Jhay. The project is deeply immersed in African roots as Barry Jhay takes Afropop to a new level. It is a 9-track EP and the only featured act is Davido. Some of the producers that worked on the EP include Ice Beats, Ty Mix, Tefa, and more. The project is set to drop before the end of the month.
