KAI Collective: Fisayo Longe’s ‘Gaia’ Has Become An Instant Influencer Favourite
In the era of TikTok, dance trends and social media challenges, the quest for virality is an ever-competitive game. Every week there’s something new, hot off the press, that everyone is talking about. But how often does a dress – yes, a dress – make its way into the minds (and onto the social media pages) of people all over the world, thanks to its beauty and aesthetic appeal alone.
Of course, there was the infamous blue and black dress saga of 2015, or the widely photographed cleavage-loving emerald green floral minidress that made its rounds on the Twittersphere not too long ago. But there’s something about the Gaia dress, the latest addition to Fisayo Longe’s 2016-founded fashion brand KAI Collective, that women everywhere can’t seem to get enough of.
The Gaia dress was only released a few weeks ago, but it’s been worn by a host of our favourite influencers like Patricia Bright, Temi Otedola, Lydia Dinga, Nqobilé Danseur, Hafsah Mohammed, Rayya Ansari, Bri Martinez, Ifeoma Amadi, Rahel Brhane, Bella Michelle, The Oddity and Zeinabou Munyaradzi.
The colourful-patterned fabric was designed by Fisayo Longe in collaboration with Grapes Pattern Bank. In an Instagram post, Longe revealed that the Gaia dress has “no print placement”, which means that no two dresses will look exactly the same and the patterns will always vary slightly from the dress to dress. If KAI Collective were insistent on making every dress identical (as other brands might have done), a lot of fabric would be wasted in the production process.
Gaia is *available in two colours, purple and orange. Gaia purple comes in two styles, a full length bodycon dress and a top, whereas Gaia orange comes as a top or as a minidress.
*The word “available” here is preceded by an asterisk because, at the time of writing, Gaia is entirely sold out on KAI Collective’s website. But not to worry, because according to the designer herself, another round of restocks is imminent.
I, for one, can’t wait to see who steps out in this brilliant design next. Keep scrolling to see some of the best photos of the Gaia dress so far.
