Popular Nigerian womenswear designer, Fruché, unveiled his SS19 collection “free
spirits” . The collection is a breath taking mix of Western style and Nigerian Indigenious style
particularly from the Benin Kingdom. The Benin Kingdom, is known for their beaded regalia
and colorful , vibrant culture.
Frank Aguno, creative director of Fruche talked on how the collection was inspired by
the images captured by the Royal Court of Benin’s first official photographer, Chief Alonge. The
vibrant, regal outfits worn by the upper class members of the Royal Court were a perfect mix of
Western style and the traditional Benin attire.
The collection features fabrics that are made to drape and emphasize a woman’s body
while making her feel royal and regal. The beading accompanied with the tulle or cotton fabric is
appropriate for the modern Nigerian woman or any woman who has a taste for originality.
