1. the persistent inability to believe that one’s success is deserved or has been legitimately achieved as a result of
one’s own efforts or skills.
This is a phrase a lot of creatives resonate with especially seeing as creative work is rather subjective. It can be largely loved and hated at the same time. According to the urban dictionary, Imposter syndrome is the inability to believe one’s success is deserved or has been legitimately achieved as a result of one’s efforts or skills. Jerusa Nyakundi seeks to address this demon that has plagued the thoughts of many creatives with this passion project titled “Imposter syndrome”.
She gets vulnerable in this project by showing a bit of her experience with Imposter syndrome. Here’s a bit of her story
” I dedicated this project to a season of feeling inadequate with my skills and who God called me to be. I used the word Imposter Syndrome to visually create what was in my head into a story.
I learned that sometimes, the right places and energies allow you to see the truth within yourself. It’s not about the degree, or the title, or even the traditional markers of success; it’s about understanding, deep in your soul, where you truly belong. And with that clarity came a newfound confidence—a knowing that, no matter where I ended up, I would be in the right place because I was aligned with who I really am. Sometimes I get setback or even fall short of knowing who I am and I am called to be. But I’ve learned realigning myself with God is the only way I can know”.
With her self discovery, she became more confident and aware of who she really was. She realized that it was never about getting a degree in where you truly belong but more about knowing for yourself that this is really where you belong.
