‘Color Blind’, a joint EP by Lagos-based artist Tena Tenpo & London-based Benmaelen is set to be released on May 5th, following the wide acceptance of the first single ‘On My Way’ which featured fast-rising Nigerian musician Tim Lyre. Having garnered several plays on BBC London and support from different Pan-African platforms like RADR Africa & The Replay Mag, the masterful melding of Afro-garage, ‘On My Way’ sets the tone for what to expect on this joint EP.
The 6-track project is a blend of colorful human experiences using RnB to tell the stories of two unique artists from different backgrounds on different continents, and highlighting that in a world full of color our humanity unites us. Sticking to theme, the profound cover art shows two babies, black and white, painting a colorful object in black and white —a visual representation of the beauty that our lives are when we embrace our uniqueness.
The lead single “Up”, which features MOJO AF, is the story of two young men, fighting and winning in a universal experience of humans. The soft sounds of the pads accompanied by the organ under the strong rap vocals evoke nostalgia from the 90s and the lyrics convey the pain and joys that come with hustling and fighting to be ‘Up’.
Overall, the EP is a unique collage of two strong personalities collaborating and shining individually whilst telling a compelling story.
