Adaeze Okaro, multi-disciplined visual artiste has put out a new project that shares lessons she’s learnt from love in new fashion story series titled “Love and Misery” so we asked her a few questions on what inspired the project, and how she wants people to relate to it
On what inspired this project she says
Love did. Love inspired me. If there are 3 things that continuously inspire my work its Love, desolation, solidarity and sometimes happiness. Because of the series of events currently taking place in my life I was moved to embark on this project which probes the soft, warm but mysterious paradox that is love.
On why Misery?
You know you’re so hungry after a long day at work or school or other engagements and you want to rush a hot plate of your favourite food and you wouldn’t give a care in the world even if it scalds your tongue so much. You just want to eat despite that temporary pain it brought you. Just like love, it is sometimes accompanied by misery. It will hurt, it may cause you extreme pain, discomfort and emotional distress but you’d still want to drown in it anyway.
On what this story brought to her reality?
It has helped me realise that there’s beauty in everything. Sometime we find beauty, our sanity, inspiration in the most unexpected places. Despite how hideous or unpleasant something maybe. Which is why I decided to make use of a sullen background for this project.
How she wants people to relate to the story?
I want people to understand how important it is to apply patience in every aspect of our lives. In this project that what i did. I sat it out. With patience and tolerance one would begin to see clearly and understand why things are the way they are and why they turn out the way they do.
