Nigeria turned 60 this past week, and there are many things to complain about but also quite a few things to celebrate one of which is great music. Here are some of the blazing hot tracks that dropped over the past week.
Naira marley- Idi Oremi (Opotoyi pt ii)
After a slight hiatus and disappearing on the music scene for a bit, hit song maker Naira Marley explodes on the scene with his new song. As is his brand, the song has heavy street music influences as well as risqué, explicit lyrics over a jaunty beat.
Eri Ife- Naughty Girl
The Esquire wet dey run choir dropped another fire track last week. The artiste steps out of his comfort zone on this sexy, raunchy song about his love interest who has a freaky side. The track has heavy reggae dancehall influences which Eri Ife balances out with his lyricism.
Wallz ft Oxlade & Lami- No Level
Wallz features Oxlade and Lami on this afrobeats banger. The song features a very catchy hook as well as fast paced, verses from the artistes which are sure to grab the attention of all listeners.
Maison2500- Rita Oral
Having worked with artistes like Odunsi, Maison2500 is no stranger to diverse sounds. Maison2500 brings an interesting blend of sounds on this track. This song is a motley mix of trap rap and rock. It’s a head banger that listeners will enjoy.
Azanti & Psycho YP- Focused
Young but brimming with talent, Azanti thrills listeners with this track. He draws on afrobeats and r&b influences to create this enjoyable song featuring Psycho YP. A teaser for his upcoming album, this song is a promise of even more enjoyable songs to come.
Zion Yande- Cracks
This is fresh off her latest project, Free Was The Aim, Love Was The Game. Cracks explores the artiste’s insecurity in her particular romantic relationship. She doesn’t want her love interest to scrutinize her too closely because she’s afraid they may then realize they don’t like her that much. This track has electro-music influences while keeping its soul/rnb vibe as its base.
New Videos
Here are some of the amazing visuals that dropped over the past week.
O. L. A. – Vibes
O. L. A. draws heavily on the Nigerian alté aesthetic for this video. The song, a catchy banger about the artiste’s tremendous vibes is accentuated and highlighted by the oversized glasses, low, colored lights and heavy use of leather costumes. The video is not afraid of exploring color as the women who feature in the video sport all kinds of colored hair, clothes and makeup and appear under different colors of light. The video is definitely a must see.
Omah Lay- Damn
Omah Lay’’a “Damn” is an easy to follow song in which the artiste plays a bad boy who appreciates his love interest for sticking with him. This is even though he constantly goes against the law and is generally hard to love because of his flaws. The video is on theme, showing the artiste and “bad boy” looking goons as well as his woman who sticks by him.
