Sokan Oreoluwa Samuel – popularly known as “YungAce”, is undoubtedly one of Nigeria’s fast rising music acts whose exploits and talent is rapidly growing on music listeners and fans of afrobeats, across the country and beyond.
A talented Singer, songwriter, audio engineer and entertainer, YungAce stormed every music performance he could get access to with so much vigor and flair that he shortly began doing solo performances on campus and with the support of friends and family, pulled off one of the biggest solo music concerts in Unilag (where he schooled) at the time —Believe. His journey into the music scene kicked off properly when he emerged winner of The Coke Studio competition at the University of Lagos as an undergraduate, in 2014. Ever since, YungAce has consistently worked hard to make sure his plethora of content resonates with the booming influx of afrobeat lovers globally.
He went on to independently put out singles and remixes in the years that followed, with songs like “Kokoro” featuring sensational artiste Teni, “Kilode” feat. Dice Ailes, and Adura remix with Ola Dips in 2017 and 2018.
In an attempt to further showcase his musical prowess, In November 2019, YungAce released his debut EP titled “Orin” Which earned him some more accolades from music lovers and critics, with over 100,000 streams across all streaming platforms. The EP houses hot tracks like Bana (featuring T.Classic) and Laye.
Yung Ace is a relentless artiste who continues to stir efforts to make a lasting stand in the rapidly growing fleet of young talented artistes in the country. In February 2020, YungAce released “Act A fool”, a serene love jingle fully packed with soft and sultry romantic appellations, sitting pretty on a smooth and soothing mid tempo beat.
One could easily tell that the artiste could not hold back the emotions as he set out (from the very first phrase of the song) to reveal how greatly he admires an imaginary lover and how determined he is to go out of his way to make her feel like the only woman in the whole world. The hilarious love anthem garnered over 1million views on Triller and a major notch up charts as well as his numbers across all platforms.
He was also a key feature in the popular debut project “Ejoya class of 20” by music distribution and publishing company —Ejoya, on the song titled, Lagos girls. “omo orin” as he is fondly called, delivered smoothly as well.
YungAce continues to prove that he adores growth and attracts attention with his recently released hit single “Fall” which features guest vocals and songwriting contributions from Nigerian music star and friend—Oxlade. Inspired by the alluring view of a mystery lady he found on the explore pages of the social media platform—Instagram, YungAce skillfully penned down a few lines of admiration for this lady who had appeared out of blues, sending him into a romantic pseudo reality. For what the single is worth, Oxlade amplifies the already groovy song as he swiftly and profoundly delivers a verse on the single, sending it home on a ‘high paced spaceship’ with his outstanding vocal abilities and melody. This sing-along record has additional production credits from ace beat maker, Lussh Beats – a talent who has got production credits to chart topping singles like ‘True’ by DMW’s Mayorkun, ‘Madu’ by Kizz Daniel and more.
Despite pandemic and lockdown restrictions, ‘Fall’ by YungAce received a warm reception into the airwaves, on radio and streaming platforms alike, in an amazingly blooming fashion. On the release day, ‘Fall’ made a big debut on rotation, on one of the game sessions on Africa’s largest reality TV show Big Brother Naija (BBN), in what could pass for a grand premiere (owing to BBN’s huge TV and online audience base).
YungAce takes another giant stride with the official video for Fall ft. Oxlade, a vibrant visual representation of the oozing love aptly voiced out in the colorful video, shot and directed by MediaKid.
Over the years, YungAce has built an organic vibrant, dynamic and growing fanbase who are fondly called ‘Aceans’, a group of people who are ever willing and supportive of him. Fall, largely benefiting from this pool of followers, has amassed organic streams across all major streaming platforms to the tune of Over 3Million views on Triller, Apple Music, Spotify, and Audiomack, without any fat marketing budget and major label backing.
In a phone conversation with YungAce, he speaks of an EP coming very soon with more than enough reasons to tell the world he is a voice to be reckoned with.
