Tukur makes his debut with “Smooth Criminal” – A Raw, melodic introduction to Nigeria’s next Afrobeats voice

Lagos, Nigeria – Rising Afrobeat artist TUKUR officially steps onto the music scene with the
release of his debut single, “Smooth Criminal”, out now on all major streaming platforms.
Rooted in the pulse of New School Afrobeat, “Smooth Criminal” is more than just a first song —
it’s the result of a personal journey that began in silence. Born from emotional breakdown and
isolation, the track captures Tukur’s raw edge and melodic sensibility, setting the tone for an
artist with both heart and grit.
Originally from Ogun State and now based in Lagos, Tukur Olamide Basit began creating music in
2024 as a form of self-expression. With no prior experience and no one to confide in, he taught
himself how to record vocals using YouTube beats, slowly evolving his sound into something
powerful and personal. Influenced by artists like Burna Boy, Tukur brings deep emotion,
storytelling, and rhythm into every verse.

“This isn’t just music to me — it’s therapy. It’s my truth,” Tukur shares. “Smooth Criminal is the
beginning of something I’ve waited a long time to release.”
The single blends Afro-fusion rhythms with smooth, reflective vocals — offering listeners a
glimpse into Tukur’s world: one filled with vulnerability, edge, and vision. This marks one full
year since he began making music, and this debut isn’t just a song — it’s a declaration.
With early appearances at local shows and a hunger for growth, Tukur is also looking beyond
music. His creative aspirations span gaming, fashion, and film — part of a bigger mission to build
a cross-medium artistic movement.
“Smooth Criminal” is now available on all streaming platforms. ⸻
