She’s the owner and creative director of Angella Phillips swimwear, a top swimwear label in Africa founded in Nigeria. The brand prides itself in making unique designs and using top-quality, eco-friendly fabrics to create unique and limited collection styles.
How would you define your idea of fashion?
Fashion to me is a way of self-expression and narration of a cultural idea in form of clothing, accessories, etc at a particular time.
Creative expression can take many forms, what made you decide to start your own fashion brand?
Growing up as a model and getting to be around fashion designers inspired me to love the art of designing. My love for water, sand, and bikinis inspired me to start my swimwear brand.
Tell us about your greatest challenge as a fashion designer in Nigeria
My greatest challenge as a fashion designer in Nigeria is the unavailability of skilled manufacturers. Swimwear designing is still very new in Nigeria. It’s difficult to find tailors that are skilled in that area.
Tell us about your best and worst fashion moment?
My best fashion moment is definitely low waist Jeans! Bring them back, please!
My worst would be those see-through shoes and those sandals with latex socks! Uggh!!
What are the 5 things every woman should have in her wardrobe?
Five things every woman should have in their wardrobe are:
- A blazer- a cream or black blazer!
- Jean pants
- Little black dress
- A white shirt
- And of course every woman should own a black triangle bikini.
