Wait For You – Melvitto
We’re starting with this old but gold tune from Uber talented music producer, Melvitto teaming up with Oxlade to deliver this beautifully put together love song. Oxlade wastes no time showing his vocal dexterity and lyrical prowess. He Delivers excellently what I think is the anthem for lovers of ‘Words of affirmation’.
More fascinating is the fact that the visuals for this track which was released almost two years after the song was released as a part of Melvittos EP The night is young was put out has garnered almost half a million views. If that doesn’t scream fan favorite, I don’t know what else does.
Ajebo Hustlers- Caress
The Video for this song is as comical as its lyrics. My favorite line is when he says ‘I tell you say we go chill and you dey come with your best friends, If no be threesome, what is the essence?’
In this song, Ajebo hustlers try to convince this babe that they are into her fr fr. In typical Yoruba man fashion, they tell her, “You dey enter my eye like soap when I dey baff”
The visuals mirror the song with one of the duo cooking for a babe and when they start to have sex, her partner shows up. LMAO.
Released on the same day as ‘In-love’ ft FAVE, they took a chance with their double drop and I dare say it paid off!
IDG – Asa x Wizkid
After ‘lucid’ in 2019, fans of Asa were more than ready for V. “IDG (I Don’t Go)” Featuring Wizkid immediately became a fav for many. It’s different from the usual sound and lyrical depth we’d expect from Asa. But that’s fine, you know. It’s an attempt at Afro-pop and I’d say it turned out fairly well. It gives a fun and carefree vibe while passing the important message and that’s exactly what Asa was going for.
I’ve been thinking of Soweto now and it’s definitely on my list of places to go
Loti – mainland
‘Who is this guy and where can I listen to more of his stuff?’ These were my thoughts the first time I played mainland. Several listens later and I still feel the same way.
Loti combines mastery of words with beautiful melody to give the Mainland Anthem. Telling a story of earnest work to make a living. This is like his ‘coming- out’ song, somewhat of an introduction to who Loti is.
He has such a refreshing sound; laced with hopes and dreams that I want for him to never lose.
Definitely looking forward to hearing more from him.
Soft Life – Moelogo, Chinko Ekun
This is Moelogo’s debut single for the year. It was produced by Medua and featured TheTiger- Chinko Ekun.
It’s a catchy, feel good song highlighting that they want a soft life. Also taking lessons from the song and texting this to all my friends: ‘If e no be money don’t call my number, Don’t try my number, Don’t dial my number’
You Suppose Know (Remix) – Bez, Yemi Alade
In the spirit of ‘Old Gold’, 6 years ago Bez released his sophomore album “Gbagyi Child” and one of the tracks was this reassuring love song. Yemi Alade and Bez are both powerhouses musically and it was a no-brainer for Cobhams Asuquo to produce this song. The Gatsby-themed music video directed by Clarence Peters screams Excellence. It’s surprising this wasn’t more mainstream when it was released.
I wonder how this would have done if this was released in this Tik-Tok challenges era. Send this to your lover and thank me later.
