Amaarae returns to our music libraries and is sure to be in constant rotation as she releases her new single, “Leave Me Alone”, via Platoon.
She wowed her fans and audience alike with a top class performance on Odunsi (The Engine)’s “body count” released earlier this year, and laces her new single with her whisper-singing style and sultry tone; characteristic of her instantly recognisable voice. The nostalgic sound and theme of this single is reminiscent of hazy summer nights, freedom, and passion, to name a few necessities that have been lacking in recent months.
Speaking on the single, Amaarae says: “Leave Me Alone” is a freedom record. It’s just about wanting to live your life and be left to do so. There’s so much going on in the world right now. We all need a break – or some form of escape and this song speaks to that desire. It’s about having the space to breathe, process and get your mental and emotional states right.”
Amaarae also had a few things to say about the inspiration for her forthcoming project, The Angel You Don’t Know. “Working on this project, I felt like I was finally coming into my own and saying what I wanted to say as an artist. This is the new version of me. This is where my journey as an artist is really starting, everything prior to this was me searching for myself, it was the growing pains.”
