Six months after the release of his widely acclaimed debut 9-track album, Nigerian singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer Tim Lyre returns with a stunning new Deluxe version of Worry < (pronounced ‘worry less’). The album, a vibrant journey through soulful afro-fusion music and alté, has garnered over 2.5 million streams, racked up support from the likes of BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 1Xtra, Cool FM, Bandcamp (Album of the Week), Notion Magazine, Okay Africa, Breakroom Africa, Pan African Music, Bounce Radio, iMullar and Worldwide FM.
With features from the likes of Lex Amor, Prettyboy D-O, MOJO AF, Tena Tenpo, Lady Donli, DAP The Contract, July Drama and Kobla Jnr, and breakout singles ‘Real’, ‘Hubris’ and ‘Present’, the project has been widely tipped as one of the albums of the year from West Africa. Tim has conscientiously worked to cement his status as an integral part of the alté renaissance with his debut, which peaked at #29 on the Apple Music Album Charts in Nigeria.
Worry < (Deluxe) features five new records including fiery production remixes from a dazzling array of British and South African producers, alongside a new version of ‘Spanish Lime’ featuring Nigerian musician Suté Iwar.
Leading the pack is Hobie; a UK producer known for acclaimed releases on Seb Wildblood’s Church and all my thoughts imprints, including the BBC 6 Music-approved ‘Strugglebus vol.1’, who offers up a smoky emotive take of ‘Hubris’ ft Lex Amor, tastefully sampling the sound and building on a sleepy beat and warm keys to create a dusty soothing palette.
The deluxe also features Oscar Mbo’s ‘Real’ remix, first released in October last year which has since become a staple in DJ sets by the likes of Black Coffee and Vinny Da Vinci. Taking it underground, London-raised and Berlin-refined producer Midnight Manoeuvres, offers a guttural, cinematic 170bpm excursion for lovers of half-step drum & bass and autonomic on ‘Spanish Lime’.
South African producer Skulla serves up an ethereal mid-tempo house take on ‘Syzygy’ featuring DAP The Contract, and the project closes off with a stunning new version of the album’s closing salvo ‘Spanish Lime’ with extra production from Tim and a stunning new verse from Suté Iwar.
‘Worry <’ (Deluxe) was released on September 2nd, with the remix of ‘Spanish Lime’ featuring Suté Iwar the lead single.
