”Tiwa Savage gets open and personal on “Celia”, her new studio album dedicated to her mother.”
Tiwa Savage gets personal and open on Celia, her new studio album which she dedicated to her mother.
The opening track to Tiwa Savage’s new album is ”Save My Life” and the first thing that grabbed listeners’ immediate attention was the song’s introduction. Staccato beats and snazzy saxophone droning were the perfect opening to the song and in fact the album. She brings her signature Afropop expertise to this sensual song with slightly raspy yet exquisite vocals. The song is about a girl who is singing to her love interest that ”Your Love is the only thing that can save my life”.
”Ole ft Naira Marley” is another notable track on the album. On this song, she brings the same bossy, hard attitude she had on her hit 2019 track ”49-99”. This time, Naira Marley is there to complement her vibe with his adept Yoruba wordplay. The song is a zesty afrobeat mix that will leave listeners’ heads bobbing long after the song is over.
Tiwa Savage then gets very vulnerable and personal with the track ”Us” which is the first song she has put out addressing the separation between herself and her ex-husband. She gets up close and very personal in the lyrics when she sings that even her mother’s prayers weren’t enough to keep them together. The vocals and lyrics on the song are rife with raw, honest emotions as well as beautiful background chords. The song is an afrobeats ballad and it evokes a deep emotional reaction in listeners.
Another track on the album that gives us a glimpse into Tiwa Savage’s personal space is ”Celia’s Song”. Tiwa Savage shared that she was inspired directly by her mom for this song because these are some of the prayers she prays for Tiwa when she feels down, overwhelmed or discouraged. The song touches the artiste’s religious roots which she belts out in crisp vocals. Tiwa Savage shared that she made this song because she wanted to put out music that would heal people.
The album officially dropped at midnight today with a surprise feature from Sam Smith! The song they feature on, Temptation was written for Tiwa Savage by newcomer, Fireboy Dml. In this track, the artistes sing about the hold that their live interests have over them with their eyes
Tiwa Savage also features Davido , the OBO on the track, Park Well. Its a beautiful love song punctuated with full saxophone notes and soulful lyrics.
The album itself promises to be a banger teeming with crisp vocals, hot features, and amazing vocals.

[…] Tiwa’s Koroba has been my mood this whole week because I’m all about that enjoyment life. Released in 2020 and quickly becoming a street fav, this song still gets heads bobbing and lots of sing-alongs whenever it is played. […]
