Coming into 2022, Nigerian Afropop rising star VICTONY had one of the biggest Afrobeat songs in the world under his belt in ‘Holy Father’ featuring Mayorkun. This track has over 20 million plays online and topped the Apple Music Top 100 NG chart for eight weeks. He followed that up in March with another smash hit ‘Apollo’. Apollo debuted at #11 on the Billboard Afrobeats Singles Chart and has already surpassed a million plays online. With nearly a million monthly listeners on Spotify alone, Victory is fast becoming one of afrobeat emerging new global stars.
The 20-year old singer, rapper, and songwriter is excited to unveil his highly anticipated sophomore EP titled OUTLAW. All tracks on the project were written and composed by vict0ny himself. The songs were engineered by Hoodini, with production from the likes of Ktizo and P.Priime. The artist explores themes around being yourself and living freely in a society that is judgemental and wants to dictate how you live.
From the title track ‘Outlaw’, which sees Victony reclaiming his freedom from societal expectations in defiant mode, and ‘Chop & Slide’ about the pitfalls of transactional relationships, to the vibrant tongue-in-cheek dance floor filler ‘All Power’ and the infectious ‘Soweto’, over which Victony confesses his love to his leading lady, the Outlaw EP makes for an exciting and satisfying listening experience from start to finish, driven by Victony’s smooth and captivating vocal performances, his assured delivery and penchant for sweet melodies, and an uncanny knack for penning great pop songs.
Outlaw the EP
Speaking about the inspiration behind the Outlaw EP, Victony says, “This project means everything to me because I was able to express myself in my truest form. I make all types of music and I want different people to connect with me on different levels. Whether happy or sad, party person or loner. I make music for everyone, and I don’t want to be kept in a box. So I’m defying the norm, and this project is the start of it. Some of the songs on this project were recorded far back as 2020. I was supposed to drop this project in 2021, but then the accident happened, but a delay isn’t denial. So, I know God has a reason for letting it happen. Also, I feel now He’s ready to show me to the world”.
