Beyoncé’s Already: A final product of collaborative African talent

Beyoncé shows that she is at the pinnacle of her craft as a collaborative musician with the release of the Already video with Shatta Wale

Famous American, grammy award winning superstar, Beyoncé shows the world once again that she is at the pinnacle of her craft as a collaborative musician with the release of the Already visuals. 

Upon the release of the live-action remake of Lion King, Beyoncé released ”The Gift” a project that saw several indigenous African artists get featured. 

Today the Queen of the beyhive released one of the most highly anticipated visuals for one of the hit songs from the album, ”Already” which features popular Ghanaian artist, Shattawale. The video is not your regular music video it comes as a sneak peek into her highly anticipated visual album celebrating the African Black experience, ”Black is King” which debuts today! 

The video is African through and through with the painted dancers, traditional ankara with small repetitive motifs and Beyoncé herself in animal print and even doing the Zanku dance. It is impossible not to appreciate the Queen’s ability to seamlessly mold her sound to the genre whether it be soul or in this case, afrobeat. It is even more impressive, the deliberate inclusiveness of African talents Bey made sure was involved in the making of this project.

This visual and indeed the entire Black is King Project is not simply a collaboration with a singular African artiste, it’s an amalgamation of many indigenous African contributions from the features, to production and filming, further to the designers of both clothes and sets and even the dancers. The video itself was shot in several locations in Ghana and the rest of the visual album was also shot in various locations around the continent.

Listeners will definitely fall under the spell of the full, round drum sounds coupled with the dance performances and exquisite production. There will also be another layer of enjoyment steeped in the fact that the talents that brought this project to life are in this same space with us here in Africa.
