Since the release of his debut project, Spotlight, Reekado Banks has grown as an artiste and diversified his sound. The artiste has been steadily releasing hit song after hit song, thrilling audiences around the world and multiplying his fan base.
Earlier this year, Reekado Banks delighted fans everywhere with the release of his song, Rora, off this new project. The EP, Off The Record, is a careful curation of the different sounds that Reekado is capable of. The artiste does not feature on this alone, he joins talents with other big wig artistes to create this project.
Reekado shows that he is as versatile as he is talented. He meets up with talented acts like Tiwa Savage, Tanzanian artiste Harmonize, Kida Kudz, and more. Each song spins the dial and sees Reekado Banks exploring yet another facet of his sound.
The opening track, Need More featuring Kia Kudz and EO shows Reekado Banks using interesting sound spacing and arrangement to deliver a solid afrobeats song. Kida Kudz and EO bring a slight reggae dancehall/drill influence to the track which only increases its smoothness.
Speak To Me, featuring the Mavin queen Tiwa Savage is a track that really lets the vocals of the artistes shine through. The fast-paced song has a catchy tune which both Tiwa and Reekado show off on. Listeners will enjoy the fast drums and groovy tunes.
You Dey Mad with Attifaya is an upbeat song about people who lie about their status. Reekado sings that he just wants to enjoy his life and has no time for these people.
People Dey created with the amazing Mr Eazi, is a fun, carefree song that also takes on a serious issue facing those with fame. Reekado Banks makes light of those who try to betray him while showing a friendly face.
All in all, the ep is an enjoyable exploration of Reekado Banks’ sound and a musical way to tackle some of the life issues he faces.
