Wizkid’s Made In Lagos: A Symphony Of Gentle Vibes

Wizkid, the original Star Boy has finally dropped his highly anticipated album. After holding his cards close to his chest for the past three years, keeping fans waiting with bated breath, Wizkid unveiled this fourth studio album, Made In Lagos.

After the initial back and forth and endless waiting, fans still did not believe the album was dropping till he released two singles off of the project; No Stress and Smile ft H. E. R..

The original album release date of October 15th was pushed back due to Wizkid’s active involvement in tweeting and protesting in support and solidarity with the End Sars Protests. The album was supposed to come to us on November 22nd but due to a leak, was moved forward.

And that’s how Wizkid gave us the ultimate end of the month treat.

Many things were expected of the album and Wizkid satisfied ears on every front. The chill vibes of the album were pleasantly surprising to listeners who were more used to his faster-paced tracks. Over the curse of the fourteen tracks on this project, Wizzy brings a smooth mix sprinkled with exciting features. 

One of the stand out features on this project is Ginger ft Burna Boy. Star Boy and the African Giant are an unbeatable duo on this track. The song starts immediately with Burna singing the hook and Wizzy following immediately with his own vocal interpretation of the hook. The song is a groovy tune with a very catchy hook. The track only gets better at the end when Bhrna Boy goes off on a mini verse that is so fantastic, he almost makes the song his own. This outro to the song however, is very pleasant and shines with the energy of the African Giant.

Wizzy and Skepta have always been a fantastic musical match and on Longtime, their chemistry really shows itself. Skepta sinks comfortably into this afrobeat-drill scene. Listeners will get a chiller version of the vibes on Skepta’s track 

Bad Energy. Wizkid the lover boy is heavy on this track as he sings, ”Omo to wu mi ni ma fe” meaning its the One I prefer I will love.

Blessed with Damian Marley is a chill reggae shift from the other tracks on this project. “I Do What Make Me Happy And Nobody Can Deny Me That I’m Blessed” embodies Wizkid’s lowkey yet carefree energy. The saxophone sounds, the drums and the steel drum notes really paint a chill tropical island evening for the listeners.

Piece of Me with Ella Mai is another delightful listen on this album. Ella’s vocals and the sensual lyrics are perfect for snuggling with your lover.

Tems raspy vocals are a pleasant surprise on Essence. She maintains her uniqueness as an artiste on this track, it can be easy to get swallowed up by a personality as big as Wizkid’s. Wizkid proves himself adept at blurring the lines between r&b and afrobeat love songs. 

Tay Iwar is the perfect fit for his feature on True Love. It has a heavy reggae vibe and also has early 2000s love songs sung by 2baba. Ite beautiful lyrics are sure to transport listeners to another plane. 

All in all, this album is a beautiful fourteen track journey that is bursting with Wizkid’s chill energy, full of his aura and a lover and chock full of talent.
