Friday Drops: Rema, D’ija and more

The first week in December is blitzing by our very eyes. It looks like 2020 is just as excited to come to an end as everyone wants it to. Though it may seem the time is just getting away from you,the upside of this is that another week of great music is upon us and we get to share the fruits of creativity with various talented artists like Rema, Ckay, Fireboy and more.

Peace of mind- Rema

Rema, the talented whiz of the new generation of afrobeats shakes up this friday list with his signature sauce. Rema has a way of taking relatively normal tracks and making them feel new and a bit experimental. On this track, his message is reminiscent of big names like Reekado Banks and Wizkid as he sings about wanting peace of mind. Though young, Rema has shown time and again that he can navigate universal topics of need, fame and a search for peace.

All the time- Di’ ja

Especially on the Nigerian music scene, popular artiste, Di’ja has been quiet. The Mavin records artiste disappeared from the public eye for a noticeable amount of time and even hot married and started a damily during the space of her hiatus. She has returned to the fray with her ep Aphropop Vol 1, where she explores her sound, repackages it and refreshes it for our enjoyment. As per usual, Di’ja brings crisp, clear and impressive vocals to this track. Her musical arrangement has become more contemporary as heard on this track with trap beats and sharp drums.

Jo!!!- Dj consequence

Featuring Barry Jhay, Jason and Frescool, Dj consequence will thrill listeners with this afrobeats banger. The song has the mix of indegenous lyrics and fast pace that is a sure fire recipe to get listeners dancing. Barry Jhay’s vocals are getting more and more confident on his features as he gets more adept at delivering his verses.

Sere- Dj Spinall ft Fireboy dml

Dj Spinall and Fireboy are a winning duo on this track. Assisted by undulating saxophone notes, Fireboy belts out stellar lyrics on this staccato beat. Right up, Fireboy’s alley, this love song is about the artiste asking his love interest on a vacation. The lyrics are light and playful and above all, beautifully delivered by Fireboy.

Felony- Ckay

This artiste has appeared in quite a few songs recently as a featured talent including Amaarae’s Fantasy off her recent album. Now, he releases his own track for listeners to appreciate. This is a love song and here the artiste sings abour how if loving his love interest is a crime he will gladly go to jail. The sound is a soft fusion of alternative folk and afrobeats that is sure to please any listener’s ear.
