Dr. Adaku Jennifer Agwunobi better known as ‘Dr Adaku’ is a 27 year old PhD holder, songwriter, author and entrepreneur from the UK and of Nigerian heritage. She was born and brought up in the UK, while her parents are from Nigeria. However, her Nigerian roots are deeply sewn into her many talents.
Dr Adaku is a unique talent, not only with amazing vocals and songwriting skills, but also with an outstanding intellect. She is proudly the first black doctoral researcher to have a PhD in her school and two Masters degrees; The most recent being MSc Health Economics.
One of the key underlying themes of all her work and creative outlets is to improve the well-being of society around the world, however she can with her voice, beauty and brains.
Dr Adaku is passionate about the welfare of people around her, and with the current global unrest, was moved to use her songwriting skills and euphonious voice to shed some light and hope to the world through her latest release titled “Jisike ”.
“Jisike” translates to ‘be strong / be hopeful / take care’ in the Nigerian Igbo language. “O ga di mma” on the other hand, means “everything will be okay” and the whole premise of the song is there to tell the world that every little thing will be okay, even when it doesn’t seem like it.
The London-based Nigerian singer draws inspiration for “Jisike ” from the seemingly unending global chaos, and to help the world take a breather and relax during what has been an intense year of uncertainty and injustice, particularly to Black lives across the globe. It is a ‘close your eyes and relax‘ afro-soul vibe, produced by professional sound experts; Ken Hamilton and ThankGod Chidiebube, (Thankykit).
Notably, Being the first black PhD holder in her campus, her song “Jisike” and research, focuses on health, welfare, discrimination and entrepreneurship. Dr Adaku wants to help listeners through her soothing voice and professional expertise. Her book Yours sincerely, is a series of poetry, song verses, thoughts and life lessons to guide the reader through life and be the best friend you never knew you needed. A sassy and relatable self-help, self-love, self-care book, as described by Jennifer Agwunobi PhD.
She doesn’t just stop at music or books, Dr Adaku is also the founder of hairgoals (@hairgoals), a natural hair care brand in London, and a fashtech company (built on her love for making tees) that gives back to society, called literallyneed (@literallyneed).
Dr Adaku is a bundle of talents and skills essential to mental and physical health and development, and will stop at nothing to make a positive and lasting impact in society.
Jisike is the first out of many songs to come from Dr Adaku. She is quite promising and one to get acquainted with.
